Plena al Salsero - Live in Monterrey, MX
"Plena Libre, what a fantastic band.
it’s all pretty great, a portrait of one of the Caribbean’s most
powerful groups. The recording catches the group live, and it
simply rocks. From the first tune, "Tumbalakatin," a five-minute
work out on plena rhythms, the band just nails it. Super tight
coros fly over plena and bomba rhythms, and a pile of good
singers who never forget that rhythm is the point. The band
was brought together in the mid-90s, to work with traditional
Puerto Rican rhythms; as heard on the disc, the band’s
absorbing all sorts of musical influences, including salsa and
other Caribbean music.
Highly Recommended. (Peter Watrous, Descarga.com)
